So we'll start with some three dimensional, cardboard paper mâché letters. Hobby Lobby sells some from the Paper Studio for $2.99 a piece. If you can catch them on sale they are only $1.50.
Next, you want to take an Exacto knife and carefully cut the faces off of each letter. I found that there is a groove you can follow along and the knife just cuts through like butter.
Empty out the insides.
.. And ta da! Repeat for all the letters.
Once you are done, you can clean up all the edges with the Exacto knife until everything is super smooth.. Or leave them if you want more of a vintage, rustic look!
Get some spray paint!
.. This is my favorite part. I love spray painting so much. I look for excuses to do it.
After I did two coats of red, I used the black to make it look a bit weathered!
Next, flip the letters upside down. Take the Exacto and cut X's evenly on all of the letters.
Then with the back of the Exacto, punch them through.
And now... The star of the show.
Push the socket through a hole...
and reconnect with the bulb.
